On October 13th, 2012, a little cobblestone street in downtown Asheville, NC, will transform into a celebration of Bavarian traditions, including Lederhosen, bratwurst, Polka music, and, of course, beer! Join in the Oktoberfest festivities on Wall Street this fall and discover Asheville's Old World spirit.
Get ready for some good food
Nothing packs a flavor punch like grilled bratwurst wrapped in a pretzel bun and topped with locally made Lusty Monk spicy mustard and tangy sauerkraut. German food will be served by street vendors representing some of Asheville's favorite restaurants, including Cucina 24, Jack of the Wood, and The Market Place.
Family-friendly, knee-slapping fun
Internationally-renowned “oompah” band The Stratton Mountain Boys will liven up the street with yodeling songs and spirited Polka music. Get your German folk dance on with a little skirt swirling fun! Plus, there's fun to be had watching (or participating in...) the costume contest, where maidens don their Dirndl and men sport their feathered caps. Additional Oktoberfest Games include "keg-rolling" and the "Stein race."
Raise your glasses for a toast to Beer City USA
There's plenty to be jolly about if you're a beer enthusiast in Asheville, which was recently picked by Lonley Planet as one of the Top 5 Beer Cities in the nation. Half a dozen local microbreweries, including Highland Brewing, Asheville Brewing Company, and Pisgah Brewing, will be serving up sloshing cups of frothy goodness.
