3rd Annual ActionFest Comes to Asheville in April

Asheville is the place to be for non-stop action from April 12 through 15. For action films, that is! Get your tickets now for the third annual ActionFest in Asheville, North Carolina. ActionFest was named one of the "20 Coolest Film Festivals" by MovieMaker Magazine.

ActionFest draws action film enthusiasts
The four-day festival features dozens of movies, including the exciting premiere of Michael J. Bassett's movie Soloman Kane, as well as Wu Xia, which stars internationally recognized martial arts actor Donnie Yen. There's also an awards ceremony and a main attraction Stunt Show Extravaganza. The popular Carolina Cinema is hosting and has a full bar and munchie menu.

It's all about the action
ActionFest is "the only international film festival devoted exclusively to action cinema and its unsung heroes." Those unsung heros are stunt men and women, fight choreographers, and second unit directors--all the people who put the action in an action film. The 2012 ActionFest Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to stuntman Mickey Gilbert, whose decades long career includes stunts in numerous famous films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Blazing Saddles, and The Blues Brothers.

Profits go to Kickstart Kids
ActionFest supports a super cause: Kickstart Kids. In 1990, Chuck Norris and his wife Gena started the children's charity to demonstrate positive living through martial arts training in inner city middle schools. The connection? ActionFest was co-founded by Chuck Norris' brother, Aaron Norris, who is most well known as the executive producer of the hit TV show Walker, Texas Ranger.

Plenty of opportunities for action
Surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a paradise playground in the spring. When you're done watching action movies, get outside and take a hike or cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence

Visit Asheville and Tour Movie Locations
In the same vein as other recent fantasy successes, such as the Harry Potter and Twilight films, The Hunger Games is becoming a craze that is sure to draw fans and cinema buffs to Asheville throughout the summer tourism season.

The attention that Hunger Games is receiving is already boosting the local economy, with the North Carolina Film Commission quoting preliminary figures of 62 million dollars being brought into the area. Theater pre-sales of tickets are breaking box office records, with one midnight screening at an Asheville theater sold out nearly a month in advance of the premiere.

This isn't the area's fist taste of big business filmmaking -- "The Last of the Mohicans," "Dirty Dancing," and "Hannibal" were all filmed near Asheville -- but it just may prove to be the biggest attention-getter yet.

Biltmore Gardens in Bloom: Spring Comes to Asheville

Spring blooming season is upon us in Asheville, NC! The gardens at Biltmore Estate are world-renowned for their spectacular show of colors, and April marks the beginning and the best of ornamental flowering splendor. The Biltmore Gardens were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same celebrated landscape architect who is responsible for such well-known projects as Central Park in New York City and the country's oldest state park, Niagara Falls.

Spectacular Blooms at Biltmore Gardens
In early to mid- April, many varieties of trees transform into full bloom, including fruit tress such as cherry, pear, and apple, as well as the unique flowers of redbud, magnolia, and dogwood trees, whose delicate white bloom is recognized as the North Carolina state flower. Bulb blooming season is another stunning reason to visit the Biltmore Estate during April, with daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths offering guests a full array of color. Then come the azalea bushes, drawing hundreds of butterflies toward the end of April and throughout May! This is one of nature's most vibrant displays: a must see for gardening enthusiasts!

When you're visiting the Biltmore Estate and its expansive gardens, let Carolina Mornings enhance your vacation experience with a luxury Asheville vacation rental. Some of the best vacation rentals in Asheville are available through Carolina Mornings, a locally-owned business that offers pet friendly rentals ranging from mountain cabin rentals to deluxe urban accommodations that have amenities comparable to the finest Asheville hotels.

Asheville Recognized as a Top Travel Destination

TripAdvisor has recently announced that Asheville, North Carolina, is one of fifteen destinations on the rise for travel and tourism. According to their website, travelers are raving about our mountain paradise, and creating quite a buzz. This comes on the heels of another designation by TripAdvisor in October 2011 when Asheville was voted by the website's users as being a Top 10 Destination for Food & Wine.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Behind Asheville at Dusk

Here's what TripAdvisor had to say about Asheville:"There's something about Asheville that makes its blend of remote Appalachian charm and cosmopolitan sophistication seem perfectly natural. The city abounds in cultural attractions and events, many stemming from the literary greats who have lived here. Thomas Wolfe, Carl Sandburg, and O. Henry all once called Asheville home. The city has historically been a resort for the wealthy. But there's also a friendly, small-town atmosphere; the city has a way of making visitors feel right at home.

"Located at the confluence of two rivers and nestled in the mountains, Asheville is a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts, who have their pick of hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, hot air ballooning, and many other activities. So breathe in the fresh mountain air, take a spin along 'America's most scenic drive,' the Blue Ridge Parkway, and soak up the beauty and spirit of this lovely mountain city."
