Top Five Memorial Day Destinations in Asheville

Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer festivities and Asheville has plenty to choose from! Save gas money and take a short trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains to cool off and have some fun with the whole family.

1. The 10th annual Mountain Sports Festival is Memorial Day weekend at Carrier Park, offering free entertainment and dozens of sports competitions and activities set alongside the scenic French Broad River. With tons of gear exhibitions and demonstrations, this festival is the perfect way to get in gear for the summer!

2. White Squirrel Festival in downtown Brevard is another fabulous event full of music, kid's activities, and a parade. Plus, again, it's all free! This year, there are sixteen free concerts. And, yes, there really are white squirrels in Brevard!

3. Take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Asheville to Craggy Mountain to see the blooming rhododendrons. This annual must-see display is a colorful feast for the eyes!

4. Tour the area's waterfalls and cool off in a mountain stream. There's nothing more refreshing on a hot day! The mountains surrounding Asheville are rich in waterfalls, including Looking Glass Falls off of the Parkway, Hickory Nut Falls near Chimney Rock, and several more on US 64 up the Cullasaja Gorge.
